Justin Menard is a 21-year-old computer science student who comes from Nantes, France. His interest in the field of computer science began when he started playing online games in middle school. He quickly became fascinated with how these games were created, and this sparked his desire to pursue a career in the field.
To achieve his goals, Justin decided to pursue a scientific baccalaureate, which gave him a solid foundation in mathematics. With this knowledge, he then enrolled in Epitech Nantes, where he spent the first 3 years developing his skills in programming and gaining a better understanding of his interests within the field of computer science.
Today, Justin’s main area of interest is cybersecurity, with a particular focus on OSINT. He finds this aspect of cybersecurity to be especially fascinating and hopes to continue exploring it further in his studies and career. Why did you choose Epitech Brussels for your 4th-year study exchange?
I decided to go to Epitech Brussels for my fourth year mainly because of the cybersecurity program. I already had some knowledge and background in cybersecurity, so it was an opportunity for me to put that knowledge into practice and learn about other aspects of cybersecurity, as the program covered different aspects of it. Moreover, I chose Brussels because it’s a beautiful city and it is very well located in Europe, with the possibility of visiting neighboring countries. I also saw that the city had a vibrant student community, and there were opportunities to share accommodation with international students.
First Impressions
I must say, my first impressions of Brussels were really positive. The team at Epitech Brussels welcomed me warmly and made me feel at home right away. Honestly, I didn’t notice many differences between Nantes and Brussels, except that the city is more international and diverse. I was able to easily connect with my new classmates and we even hung out after class to explore the city together. Overall, it was a great start to my exchange program at Epitech Brussels.
What did you enjoy the most during your study exchange in Brussels?
On a professional level, what I really enjoyed at Epitech Brussels was the fact that the courses are all taught by cybersecurity experts from different companies. This means that every project we work on is very close to the real-life industry scenario. The projects cover a wide range of areas in cybersecurity, allowing us to explore different domains and confirm or challenge our career choices. Besides the academic aspect, I also got to experience the Belgian culture, from the famous beer and fries to the iconic landmarks such as the Grand Place, the Manneken Pis, and the Atomium in Brussels. I even visited other cities in Belgium like Ghent and Liège. Living with other foreign students also allowed me to make new friends from different backgrounds.
What Did This New Experience Bring You?
Overall, this new experience at Epitech Brussels has brought me a lot. First of all, it allowed me to expand my knowledge and skills in the field of cybersecurity. Thanks to the diverse and challenging projects we worked on, I gained a deeper understanding of various aspects of cybersecurity and was able to confirm my interest in this field.
In addition, I had the opportunity to meet and collaborate with many talented and like-minded students, which not only enhanced my learning experience but also allowed me to establish valuable professional connections for the future.
Moreover, studying abroad in Brussels allowed me to immerse myself in a new culture and learn about the history and traditions of Belgium. I also had the chance to visit the neighboring countries.

Justin’s advice to our future tek4 students going to study in Epitech Brussels
The first piece of advice I would give to future students of Epitech Brussels is that if they are interested in cybersecurity, this is the perfect place to be while still maintaining the pedagogy of Epitech. Another tip is to get out and explore the city of Brussels with classmates, grab a drink, and enjoy the local scene. Lastly, I highly recommend considering having roommates from different countries as it’s a great opportunity to learn about other cultures and expand your social circle beyond the school.
